Statement of Purpose
I have always been a writer with a vivid imagination and a skill for portraying emotion in my work. As a sophomore in college I took an art class in printmaking and lost my heart. I haven't stopped writing poetry (click the poetry button for the latest) but I do take my skills as a writer and apply them to my art. Emotion is the core of who we are as people and I try to create work (art and poetry) that taps into my heart and soul, work that expresses something intensely real and intimate.
In art one of the most difficult questions is: What makes something art? Why is that splash of color my 2 year old could do art? It's not so much 'what' you create as 'why' that makes it art. To create with knowledge, reverence and purpose turns a pretty picture into art. The 'what' just decides if it's good art but even that is relative.
